VALDIVIA CULTURE
It is the oldest in the American continent, between 4,500 and 2,000
BC years. It was the first to work with ceramics.
Valdivia occupied the territories of the current Guayas, Santa Elena, Los Ríos, Manabí and El Oro provinces of Ecuador.
More than twenty-five thousand potsherds, vessels, containers for storing food and figurines of incomparable beauty have been found, the famous and artistic “Venus de Valdivia”, always naked and provided with a variety of hairstyles, which represented fertility.
